Spelthorne Borough Council has welcomed the Government's announcement that it has given the green light for a third runway to be built at Heathrow.
With many of the Borough's residents employed at the airport or in related industries, Spelthorne has been a long-standing supporter of Heathrow. As part of the consultation led by the Davies Commission, the Council voiced its support for an expanded Heathrow with the proviso that certain environmental conditions are met.
A public consultation will now be held on the impact of a third runway before the final decision is put to MPs for a vote in the winter of 2017/18.
Speaking after the Government's announcement, Cllr Harvey said: "I am delighted with this momentous decision. It is clear that only the expansion of Heathrow can deliver the type and scale of connectivity required to support the country's long term trading needs so this is excellent news for both Spelthorne and the country as a whole. We will continue to work closely with Heathrow to ensure that the noise, transport and air quality issues are appropriately addressed and that the interests of our residents and businesses are fully represented."
